Shooting Stars
Welcome to Shooting Stars. We aim to provide children aged 3 to 5 years with the best possible start to school life.
Our unit follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework using the curriculum guidance from the document 'Development Matters' to ensure that each individual child flourishes through a carefully planned environment that aims to meet the children's specific learning requirements.
Shooting Stars provision offers a homely indoor area, a bespoke covered outside area catering to all weathers and a natural area which is used frequently for activities including den building, deconstructed role play and fun in the mud kitchen. The children are encouraged to explore, create and develop physical and intellectual skills through a free flow environment which has been specifically designed to meet their developmental needs and encourage independence. The children are also encouraged to explore the wider outdoor area of the school.
Each term within the Foundation Stage unit, we learn though a mix of formal, play-based and child-lead activities designed to enhance and embed their knowledge and understanding within the curriculum. This includes: learning to read using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds; developing skill in numbers using White Rose Maths and Numberblocks; as well as, learning about the world around us through themes. These include:
- marvellous me
- people who help us
- structures for all
- lets grow
- fairy tales
- around the world
As your children settle into the unit, we will encourage them to share their experiences with you and invite the children to share their knowledge, understandings and passions with us.
